The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, represented by its agency Tourism Malaysia, is set to showcase its offerings at the esteemed Tourism Expo Japan (TEJ) from September 26 to 29, 2024.

Leading this year’s Malaysian delegation is Dr. Yasmeen Yasim, Deputy Secretary-General (Tourism), accompanied by Datuk Manoharan Periasamy, Director-General of Tourism Malaysia. The delegation comprises 15 members from eight organizations, including four state tourism boards, two airlines, one tour operator, and one association.

The Malaysia Pavilion, spanning 90 square meters and situated in East Hall 3, was inaugurated by H.E. Dato’ Shahril Effendi Abd Ghany, the Malaysian Ambassador to Japan. This pavilion features Malaysia’s premier travel products, attractions, and services. Noteworthy events include a special stage performance by Mechamato, a presentation by the Sabah Tourism Board, cultural performances, a Malaysian food talk show, a sape performance, and an engaging dance and talk show by AirAsia.

Continuing its tradition, TEJ offers a significant platform for participants to forge connections and explore collaborative ventures within the Japanese market. It also enables Malaysia to bolster its international profile while promoting the forthcoming Visit Malaysia Year (VM) 2026.

Tourism Malaysia is unveiling two new niche packages at the event: Edu+ (focused on Edutourism) and Unimaginable Golf Packages, both designed to provide travelers with experiential learning, cultural exchanges, and premier golfing adventures.

In 2023, Malaysia recorded 20.1 million international tourist arrivals, resulting in RM71.3 billion in tourism receipts, exceeding its initial goal of 16.1 million arrivals. For 2024, the target is set at 27.3 million visitors, generating RM102.7 billion in tourism revenue. The Visit Malaysia 2026 initiative aims to attract 35.6 million international tourists, with an anticipated tourism revenue of RM147.1 billion.
