State Tourism, Culture and Information Technology Committee chairman Ariffin Deraman, says Terengganu has the ability to create more batik entrepreneurs with ongoing training and guidance.

In this context, he stated that Kraftangan Malaysia has organised the Community Skills Development Program (PPKK) for batik products as a model initiative to achieve the objective.

"This programme is a skills training initiative provided by the government through the National Economic Recovery Plan (PENJANA) to develop and empower the craft community," he told reporters after the closing ceremony of the programme here.

PENJANA has arranged for training for more people including single mothers and the unemployed, a total of RM163 million.

For the first step, he said that from November on 76 people had received training.

Ariffin said everyone had the ability to sell his goods on-line via the 'Mycraftshope' website and increase their profits, as they learned about the most advanced technique to manufacture batik-based products such as bags and facial masks.
