KOTA BHARU :

Tengku Laksamana of Kelantan Tengku Abdul Halim Almarhum Sultan Ibrahim proposed today the development of a tourist resort for all regions to improve the state sector.

He said that the center would help every district to promote and market their tourism products.

“For example, there is a tourism association in Gua Musang to play this role. But, for the time being, the tourism center in Kota Bharu manages everything so the people in the district are unaware of interesting places in other districts,” he told reporters after a dialogue on Kelantan Tourism and Economic Stimulus programme at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan in Pengkalan Chepa here.

Tengku Abdul Halim added that NGOs also was encouraged to contribute to the continued growth of the tourism industry in the state.

Also present was Malaysian Inbound Tourism Association (MITA) president Uzaidi Udanis.

Meanwhile, Uzaidi said that the MITA realised that Kelantan was still concealed and waiting to be discovered with many fascinating things and elements.

“In Kelantan, there are more than 100 types of rice. The locals may know about them but not outsiders. So we are currently promoting this domestically especially in Kuala Lumpur,” he said, adding that MITA was also discussing with Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad to promote rail tourism in the state.
