MALAYSIA:

The first-ever Tourism Golf Malaysia - Amateur Golf Tournament is set to position Malaysia as one of the world's top golf destinations for travellers.

This two-day event, scheduled to draw 240 local and foreign golfers, will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC) in Kuala Lumpur on July 27 and 28.

The tournament would establish Malaysia as a year-round golfing sanctuary, according to the chairman of the tournament organizing committee Datuk Richard Lee.

"We aim to promote golf tourism in Malaysia because the country has beautiful golf courses in the middle of our cities.

"During the launch at KLGCC, Kuala Lumpur, we also want to showcase our beautiful courses to international tourists," Lee stated.

The tournament's director-general, Manoharan Periasamy of Tourism Malaysia, predicted that attendees would become familiar with the country's abundant golf courses.

"The country boasts over 200 golf courses, several of which are regarded as top destinations for Chinese visitors.

"Golfers from all over the world are expected to attend this event, as other nations have been using golf tournaments to promote tourism," he stated.

The event not only promotes tourism but also raises money for charity, with RM20,000 designated for the welfare of the KLGCC caddies.
