The Perlis Government is targeting more tourists to come and spend the night in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia Year 2020.
Tourism, Culture, Arts and Heritage Exco, Asmaiza Ahmad said last year, more than five million visitors entered Perlis but only 100,000 were recorded overnight in the state.
According to him, the government had allocated RM4.1 million to focus on improving tourism locations, agro-tourism, sports as well as courses or seminars related to tourism.
"We admit that it is difficult to attract foreign tourists to come to this country but it is not a problem for all parties to work together," he said at a press conference following the opening ceremony of the TMM 2020 campaign in the Padang Besar recently.
Asmaiza said various activities would be implemented to further stimulate the national mission in conjunction with TMM 2020.
"In the planning, we will be holding the East Wind Party, Water Festival, Woodball Competition and more," he said.
He said through such a program the local economy could also be enhanced by selling their products during the program.
He said the desire to increase tourist arrivals could be achieved if all parties, especially those involved in the tourism industry, cooperated.
"They should think more creatively using the tourism infrastructure that the government has provided.
"I am also in the process of meeting this group to discuss more creative ideas in the preparation of tourism packages to attract visitors to come and spend the night in Perlis," he said.
