PERAK:

Perak government agreed to keep its target of 5 million domestic arrivals this year even in the amid of COVID-19.

However, Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohamed Radzi has stated that it will be difficult, as six states will fall under a Movement Control Order (MCO) beginning today.

She said that the government would step up efforts to encourage tourism in Perak to cater to more visitors after the lifting of the MCO.

“We also set the target of five million domestic tourist arrivals last year, but the actual arrivals recorded will only be known soon. Nevertheless, we hope to achieve the same target this year,” she told reporters after opening the Ipoh Tourism Information Counter (ITIC).

Nolee Ashilin said that ITIC was fully operational on 20 November last year and was the first place tourists visited to obtain the necessary information about various interesting tourist attractions throughout town and across Perak in General.

“The fully upgraded ITIC is not only offering information but also educating the tourists, especially the young generation on the history of Ipoh and of Perak in general, while at the same time, promoting the state’s tourism industry,” she said
