A Platform for Local Hawkers: Call for Participation
PIFF 2024 is calling for entries from local hawker stalls and food vendors interested in showcasing their culinary talents to a large and diverse audience. This is an excellent opportunity for food entrepreneurs, particularly those with a passion for Penang's vibrant street food culture, to gain visibility and share their offerings with thousands of festival-goers.
Penang's hawker food scene is world-renowned, famous dishes like Penang's Assam Laksa, ranked 7th on CNN Travel's "World's 50 Best Foods", and Char Koay Teow have gained international recognition. These accolades not only put Penang on the global culinary map but also celebrate the rich heritage and hard work of our hawker community.
With past festivals drawing large crowds, PIFF 2024 is expected to be one of the biggest food events of the year, giving vendors the chance to increase brand exposure, attract new customers, and be part of a celebration of Penang's rich food history.
Boosting Penang's Global Appeal
YB Lim Hui Ying, Deputy Minister of Finance and MP for Tanjong, stated, "The Penang International Food Festival will elevate Penang's status as a global food destination, attracting more visitors and investment. This event will generate significant economic activity, benefiting local businesses and increasing government revenue."
YB Wong Hon Wai, Penang State EXCO for Tourism & Creative Economy, added, "With Penang now having 31 international direct flight routes connecting 17 cities, we are seeing a surge in tourist arrivals. Upcoming direct flights from Hong Kong and Shenzhen will further boost accessibility, making it easier for international visitors to enjoy our famous hawker food and other cultural attractions."
Mr Andy Song, Chief Operating Officer - PE Land (Penang) said " This state festival is a vital platform that showcases the rich, diverse heritage of Penang, and we are proud to bring this internationally promoted event to the mainland. By funding the festival, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting the state and its vibrant culture. It aligns with our vision of creating spaces where communities come together in celebration of culture, food and life - fostering unity, and pride in our shared heritage."
