The Melaka office of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry will keep up its vigilance against the selling of branded goods that are not authentic, particularly in tourist areas.

Norena Jaafar, the ministry's director for Melaka, expressed concern that the government had received so many complaints about the subject because Melaka is a tourism-dependent state and this could harm its reputation.

"Around 11 a.m. yesterday, the authorities conducted a raid at four locations in the Melaka Tengah district that are thought to be stocking fake luxury brand shoes, belts, and slippers.

At a press conference held in Krubong today, she stated, "We have confiscated all the items, worth about RM3,224, including 32 pairs of shoes, 24 pairs of slippers, and 13 belts, which were being sold for RM60 to RM70."

According to her, the ministry detained four people, ranging in age from 30 to 50, to help with the investigation. They were detained under Sections 102 (1)(C) of the Trademarks Act 2019 and 41 (1)(d) of the Copyright Act 1987.

She claimed that to prevent a shortage like the one that existed in the northern states owing to the heatwave, the authorities were also keeping an eye on the sale of mineral and drinking water.
