KUALA LUMPUR:

The International Tourism and Culture Exhibition and Conference (Intac) 2024, which takes place from October 3–6, at the World Trade Center Kuala Lumpur, is expected to draw visitors from over 20 nations.

It's encouraging that in just five months after the promotional launch in March, over 20 countries have indicated their interest in taking part.

"We are excited about the prospect of six nations showcasing their cultural performances," Intac Chairman Datuk Rosle Jaamat stated at a news conference yesterday.

"For the first time, nations like Argentina are participating. The excitement is increased because Mexico is sending a cultural ensemble to play," he continued.

According to Rosle, the four-day event is projected to bring in 100,000 visitors, with 700 business people slated to attend the first two days of conferences.

He stated that the purpose of these educational conference sessions is to broaden business networks.

The goal of Intac 2024 is to celebrate Malaysia's cultural variety while promoting tourism.

It acts as a hub for global industry leaders, culture vultures, and tourism professionals to network, work together, and share innovative ideas in the pursuit of sustainable tourism and the conservation of cultural assets.

The travel and tourism industry has had a notable upswing over the last two years, and this trend is anticipated to continue.

With a remarkable influx of 20.1 million foreign visitors last year, Malaysia generated RM71.3 billion in revenue, exceeding the forecast of 16.1 million visits.

The nation expects to welcome 27.3 million visitors this year, bringing in RM102.7 billion in tourism-related income.

Given the promising future, Indonesia has been selected as the featured guest nation at Intac 2024. Indonesia will be the country with the biggest overseas presence at the festival, with an expansive exhibit encompassing 20 booths across 172 square meters.

As of right now, countries like Bangladesh, Bhutan, Bosnia, France, Georgia, Indonesia, Iraq, Kenya, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Palestine, Peru, Yemen, Zambia, Saudi Arabia, Australia, and Thailand have all confirmed their participation in Intac 2024.

It is possible that the first-ever Intac event would exceed the original goal of 20 foreign exhibitors, which would be a first.

Numerous governmental organizations, including the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture as well as important organizations like Tourism Malaysia, Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation, Langkawi Development Authority, Malaysian Timber Industry Board, Bumiputera Tourism Operators Association of Malaysia, Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau, and Kuala Lumpur City Hall, have also overwhelmingly supported the event.

A diverse array of cultural acts from Kenya, Mexico, Yemen, and the Sabah-based Bajau Suluk ethnic group will be featured at Intac 2024.

The Madani Research Centre and the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) are collaborating to organize a two-day International Tourism Conference as part of the event.

The conference, which is free and accessible to the public, will explore important problems and new prospects in the tourist industry. It will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Mohd Azmi Mat Nayan, the chief executive officer of Madani Research Centre, Wan Muhamad Adam, the president of the Bumiputera Tourism Operators Association, and Nur Shuhadah Mohd, an assistant professor in the IIUM Department of Tourism, were also present at the news conference.
