MALAYSIA:

Malaysia Airlines and IndiGo have officially launched a strategic codeshare partnership following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in April 2024. This collaboration aims to enhance connectivity and improve the travel experience across key hubs in Malaysia and India.

Through the partnership, Malaysia Airlines customers will now have expanded access to destinations within India, as the airline’s “MH” flight code will be applied to seven additional domestic destinations in India: Kolkata, Varanasi, Patna, Tiruchirappalli, Goa, Bhubaneswar, and Visakhapatnam. These new options complement Malaysia Airlines’ current direct routes to 10 major hubs in India, including New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kochi.

Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IndiGo, expressed his excitement over the codeshare partnership, stating, “This strategic alliance is a testament to our commitment to bridging the skies between India and Malaysia, unlocking unparalleled connectivity and convenience for our customers in both countries. The collaboration will not only expand travel options but also strengthen cultural and economic ties between the two nations.”

Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group, echoed this sentiment, saying, “We are delighted to embark on this partnership with IndiGo, recognising the tremendous potential of the Indian market. This collaboration allows us to offer Malaysia Airlines customers greater access to India’s rich cultural and economic landscape while welcoming IndiGo passengers to experience Malaysian hospitality.”

The partnership aims to promote tourism and boost economic growth, particularly benefiting from visa-free travel between Malaysia and India. Both airlines are committed to offering seamless travel experiences through enhanced connectivity.
