A non-governmental organization claims there is potential to turn a former tin mine pond in Kampung Temiang, Ipoh, Perak, into a tourism destination.
The pond has been abandoned for the past 80 years, according to Roslan Ali, head of the AJ Kinta Perak Community Welfare Association.
According to him, the NGO intended to develop the area and bring it up to the level of other Malay villages in the nation, such as the well-known Indian snack-producing Kampung Baru in Kuala Lumpur and Kampung Kacang Putih in Buntong (Perak).
"I am currently submitting my request to the local authorities to establish a restaurant on a floating platform at the pond.
When approached, he stated, "For now, we have stalls by the side of the pond, selling fresh chicken and beef during the fasting month."
Roslan intends to obtain authorization to allow paddle boats there as well.
A mining pond in the city is uncommon, so if the bushes are removed and the area is brightened up with more lights, it might make a nice location for photos.
Additionally, he stated, "stalls selling handicrafts and food, including anchovies, are planned." "The pond's surrounding vista is lovely, with multiple classic residences visible in the distance.
"This could serve as a substitute for tourists visiting Ipoh, as it allows them to immerse themselves in the city's rural lifestyle," he continued.
